AIDS Online International (AOI) is an internationally synchronized online college-credit course on HIV/AIDS developed and facilitated by Dr. Sharron Jenkins of Purdue University North Central. It is an introductory, general education course that uses a multidisciplinary approach to guide students through personal HIV risk assessment activities while also providing a comprehensive overview of HIV prevention, HIV/AIDS science and the current state of the global AIDS epidemic. AOI is designed to serve as an international model for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and behavioral research allowing students from universities across the globe to enroll simultaneously into one online credit-bearing course on AIDS. Each student enrolls for AOI and receives course credit at his/her own institution.  AOI requires no science background.

The main purpose of AOI is to positively impact the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behavioral practices of young adults toward practices that should, in theory, reduce their risk of HIV infection and increase their awareness and participation in the global effort to prevention the spread of HIV.
